LEON THESPIAN TROUPE 1429 is part of The International Thespian Society, an honor society for secondary school theatre students. Membership is granted for the performance of meritorious work in theatre arts. Consult the CALENDAR for meeting times and see all the other DRAMATIC events planned during the year!

STEP 1: COME TO A THESPIAN TROUPE MEETING

COME TO A MEETING (during LUNCH TIME the FIRST WEDNESDAY of every month in the AUDITORIUM)  to check out our Thespian Troupe. You can participate in ANYTHING we do as an Apprentice member or as an Inducted Thespian.

Any student may participate as a THESPIAN APPRENTICE for as long as they want to be an APPRENTICE. They must register as an Apprentice (sign up at a meeting), attend meetings, and work to earn points for INDUCTION (which happens in May at the Roddy Awards.) And speaking of these points…

CLICK on any of these questions FOR MORE INFORMATION

1) What are Thespian points and how do I earn them?

2) How do I keep a record of the Thespian points I earn this year?

STEP 2: JOIN THE THESPIAN REMIND GROUP TO GET ALL THE UPDATES ABOUT OUR EVENTS

STEP 3: REGISTER FOR A THES-BRO OR DRAMA-MAMA

We have a special program to match up a NEW APPRENTICE THESPIAN with an INDUCTED THESPIAN as their "dramamama" or "thesbro." If you would like a "tour guide" to introduce you to the wonderful (and wacky) world of Thespians, then fill out this form and one will be contacting you in the next few days. You can also order a Thespian T-shirt with this form! THANK YOU and if you have any questions, you can ask your new Dramamama or Thesbro!

STEP 4: (optional) AUDITION FOR DISTRICTS

What are districts? Our Thespian Troupe is a part of Florida Thespians District 1. All of the troupes from our district get together in early November for our District 1 Festival (see the calendar for actual dates.) A student may go to the Festival IF they are performing/presenting at Districts. A school can take a certain number of each event. See the Florida Thespians Website for a list of events and rules. You must audition with a 30 second monologue (from a published play) and/or a song. Districts typically cost $225 per student (registration, hotel, bus.) Inducted Thespians can apply for a partial scholarship. Students must be committed to attending ALL rehearsals and Thespian events prior to Districts. It is a wonderful opportunity to be adjudicated by experts in various Theatre fields and work with other committed Theatre students. But we can only take so many students and are limited to the number of events we can present at Districts, so we take those students who we know will work well together and be disciplined and work independently and diligently on their performance or technical event.

How do I audition for Florida Thespian Districts?  * To participate at District Festival a Thespian must have a minimum of three points. To participate in State Festival (even years during Spring Break) you must have a minimum of five points. One of these points must be a tech point. (A tech point is any point not given for acting or being an audience member). This audition form must be fully filled out and submitted during the week of 8.15-8.24 Auditions will not be scheduled if you submit a form before Monday, August 19th or after 3:00 on Friday, August 23rd, 2019. After submitting your form, you will receive an audition time from Mrs. Marshall. Auditions will be MONDAY & TUESDAY August 26 & 27, 3pm-5:30pm.

WHAT IF I DON'T GET CAST IN DISTRICTS? Don't worry! You can still become a part of our Thespian Troupe! You can audition in January for the spring show and do lots of fun things with us this year while you are earning points and getting to know our Thespians!

Our Troupe goes to the STATE THESPIAN FESTIVAL in Tampa during the even years over Spring Break. This is a 4 day event with workshops from some amazing Theatre experts and leaders in their field. We also see several plays and one-acts from high schools around Florida. We are able to take the top 4 scoring events from Districts. Students who participated in Districts can go to State. Costs for State Festival are around $500 (registration, hotel, bus) and partial scholarships are reserved for students performing at State. This is a HUGE festival and you will be in downtown Tampa for Spring Break, so you must be capable of making wise choices and following the expectations for our groups without a hesitation.

STEP 5: COME TO ANY/ALL THESPIAN EVENTS THIS YEAR!!

Keep #checkingthewebsite and the calendar to know what we are doing. Come to meetings and make sure to check your remind messages! Thespians is so much fun and the more you do, the more fun it is! We are a group of people with various skills/interests in theatre tech, performance, or just a love for the theatre. Come and join us and ACT WELL YOUR PART! There is a part for you in our Troupe…

Can I see the entire Thespian Troupe Handbook?
