8:00 THEATRE TCC: THE LARAMIE PROJECT (Please read and heed the warning at the end of the desciption. This play features language, mature themes, and frank talk of violence and death.)
THIS IS A SPECIAL PREVIEW NIGHT for High School Students and the tickets will be $5 and are available at the door.
In October of 1998, twenty-one-year-old Matthew Shepard was kidnapped, severely beaten and left to die, tied to a fence on the outskirts of Laramie, Wyoming. The reason for this brutal crime? Shepard was gay. Playwright Moisés Kaufman and fellow members of the Tectonic Theater Project made six trips to Laramie in the aftermath of this violent act. During these visits, more than 200 interviews were conducted with the people of Laramie, and the resulting play chronicles the town in the year after Shepard’s murder. Hailed as one of the most captivating and encompassing pieces of contemporary theatre, the play shocks, challenges, and moves all who watch it as it reveals the lowest depths of hatred and greatest heights of compassion that lies within all human beings in any seemingly average community.
Viewer Discretion: Because of adult language and mature themes, “The Laramie Project” is not recommended for children.
