Frankenstein & The Creature- Character Studies (Copy)

I love this deep dive into Victor Frankenstein & The Creature’s character. How the man wants to create life, but not care for it. And the range of emotions and places that takes him. Victor wants to conquer but be aloof. And the creature is his opposite but equal… he wants to care but no one will let him. He wants to be a part of a society that rejects him. The monster wants to be human and the human acts more like a monster. Such great drama for the stage. And in the end we all think the monster is named the man’s name, Frankenstein. And maybe that is because h is the real monster after all.

QUESTIONS: Which part would you rather play, the man or the monster? And how do you know which is which?

QUESTIONS: What do these actors bring to the story BECAUSE they are changing roles every night? How would you like to be in a play and change characters each night? How do these actors make that work?

“Shakespeare can be in so many different worlds “which makes it fun to direct and design and maybe why students have trouble with it, because it is so open and can happen in so many different ways. Shakespeare makes sense only in the moment, in conversation, in physicality so reading it on your feet is always so important to me. I loved hearing from these artists making an old play new and exciting through some of the same methods that we use in Theatre class.

QUESTIONS: What is the first and most important question a director must ask when he is starting to look at a play? What were some of the dynamics/intentions the director explored in his version of The Comedy of Errors? Did this modern day London version feel authentic for a Shakespeare play?

Written by three roommates. Of. Course. This show is so much fun and so hilarious. It was fun to see three of the actors WHO were also the writers of the show talking about their production.

QUESTIONS: What would be the hard part about writing AND starring in your own play? What about working and living with the same three people all of the time? Why was proper circus training necessary for this show?

I like what Laura says about the Director of this musical. That he knows what he wants but he asks questions until the actors come to their own understanding of what he wants from them and why. I loved seeing these amazing actors talk about their process and their characters…

A totally different set from the Jane Eyre National Theatre set. Much more detailed. Much more realistic. And perfectly lavish for the Broadway musical She Loves Me. I loved the individual perfume bottles and how they were all so different and the jewel tones that made it look so rich!

QUESTIONS: What surprised you most about this set? How is a Broadway musical set as important as the characters in the show?

Set Design

I am obsessed with this set design. THE LADDERS, THE FIRE, THE HANDHELD LIGHTS, THE WINDOW SQUARES… it is brilliant.

QUESTION: What elements really help tell the story of Jane Eyre better than a traditional realistic set that looks exactly like the place it is supposed to represent? Even if you don’t know the very classic tale of Jane Eyre, what did you learn about this story from the set alone?

“Without a good villain you don’t have a good story.” Jonathan Freeman

Jonathan LOVES playing Jafar. And he thinks he looks better as Jafar than himself sometimes. Loved his perspective on that ONE person in the audience that he is performing for each night.

QUESTION: Would you want to play a villain or a hero in a show? Which would be your pick as the most fun villain to play on stage? Could you bring the energy to perform and do that elaborate dressing & make up process EVERY day (and twice on Saturdays)? What would keep you doing that job?
