As a Company Member of The Death Is Yet To Come: Murder Mystery, I agree that:
1. I understand and agree that if cast, I am committed to the entire rehearsal and production time. This means that if I have a pre-determined conflict, such as a weekend wedding, that most likely I will be able to attend the wedding. However, I understand that I must move weekly lessons (including voice, piano, guitar, dance, acting, etc.), classes (including dance, acting, test prep courses, etc.), or other commitments (including work, church, meetings, school functions, etc.) that conflict with rehearsals. I am fully aware that I will not be able to participate in those activities when I am scheduled for rehearsal. I understand I will move those activities to a later time or to the weekend during the rehearsal and production process and that life will return to normal after the show has concluded. I understand that if I have questions, I will speak to the director. I will be at ALL rehearsals when I am scheduled. I understand that although there will be a detailed rehearsal schedule (see below), it is tentative and subject to change due to the nature of the rehearsal process. Most rehearsals are over by 4:30pm. Tech Week will be April 20-25. Show dates or April 24th (6pm) & 25th (3pm & 7pm.) A detailed rehearsal schedule will be provided at the first rehearsal. Each week will be different, and I understand it is best to clear my schedule.
2. I will be ON TIME for all rehearsals. If I am absent from school (or going to be missing a rehearsal), it is my responsibility to let the Stage Manager, Assistant Director, or Director know in person, via text, or voice mail. I will give my parents my schedule and avoid scheduling appointments on a day I am scheduled to rehearse. I will join the REMIND group for the cast/crew and CHECK THE ONLINE REHEARSAL SCHEDULE and if I ask Mrs. Marshall when we have rehearsal I will endure cheerfully the great amount of shade she will throw my way.
3. I will always come to rehearsal with a pencil, a notebook, and my script. I will write down my own blocking. If I am not in a particular scene being rehearsed, I have three options: watch the rehearsal, study lines or do homework.
4. I will make every effort to maintain my grades at a "C" average or above during rehearsal and production. I will make arrangements for tutoring before school if necessary. If my grades drop significantly or I am skipping classes, I understand I will be dismissed from the company.
5. I will wear the appropriate rehearsal shoes, clothing, and will wear my hair off of my face in all rehearsals. I will not chew gum during rehearsals.
6. I understand that I am allowed to miss a total of two (2) pre-determined days (before the rehearsal process begins) of scheduled rehearsal time. If I have a conflict that arises after I begin the rehearsal process, my priority and commitment is to the production. IF I MUST MISS A REHEARSAL OR WILL BE LATE FOR AN UNFORESEEN REASON, I understand that I am required to email/text/tell the Stage Manager/A.D./ or Director REGARDLESS OF THE REASON.
7. I will be courteous; no talking during notes at the end of rehearsals. I do not need to justify or defend my note, simply say “Ok” or “Thank you” and save more involved conversations for later. (Notes are not personal criticisms; they are simply the things the director notes during rehearsal. You may have noted the very same things! Remember, theatre is a process, not a product. Therefore growth continues until the very last line/exit of the very last performance. So to get notes all the way up through Dress Rehearsals is not a bad thing! Theatre is never completed or perfect! Keep working)
8. I understand that I need to clean up after myself. If I leave any of my belongings or trash, I agree to perform additional duties to get my items back. These duties may involve cleaning the Theatre room or dressing rooms.
9. I understand that there will be consequences for any inappropriate behavior during rehearsal, which includes, but is not limited to chronically talking during rehearsals, not being where I am supposed to be, touching or taking other people's property (including props and costumes), and leaving rehearsal early. Consequences will be dealt with on a an individual basis and I will cheerfully accept the appropriate discipline since I chose to disregard the rules.
10. I will help to find costumes, props, and set pieces for the show. We all work together on these technical elements and I will care for my costumes by putting them away neatly after each rehearsal and show. I will also be respectful of other costumes, props, make up and hair items and keep the dressing rooms as neat as possible during the production.
11. If Mrs. Marshall numbers things nonsensically, I will not make fun of her or even bring this to her attention. SHE IS A CREATIVE GENIUS. SHE CAN SKIP #11 IF SHE WANTS TO. TRUST HER PROCESS.
12. Mrs. Marshall’s room will be open most afternoons 6th period before rehearsals and I can have a quiet study hall period during that time. I understand that I have 15 minutes after 7th period to eat a snack and prepare for rehearsal. I agree to provide myself with healthy, nutritious snacks that will help sustain my energy and stamina. I understand that I am to have a ride to pick me up (or provide my own ride) immediately after rehearsal and not to linger at school. IF I eat in Mrs. Marshall’s room, I will clean up any food items that I bring into the room. If I go to Chick-Fil-A during 6th period, I will let Mrs. Marshall know so that she can order an extra large tea from the app to sustain her caffeine level during rehearsal. If I go to Starbucks, she likes a Venti Royal English Breakfast tea with one raw sugar and extra cream.
13. I understand that all lines are to be memorized by the TUESDAY following Spring Break (March 24th.) This will ensure the flow of the rehearsal process and help the entire production.
14. I understand that sometimes in this industry, live performing arts, that everything does not go as planned. Therefore, I will remain flexible and have a positive attitude and outlook when schedules change, rehearsals end early or we stay late. I will support and trust the leadership and do my best to continue to be a young professional. I will come to every rehearsal ready to be creative, surprise myself, take creative risks, trust myself and one another, believe in and trust the process. I know this will be work, but it will also be a lot of fun if we all are flexible and creative!
15. I understand that I am expected to participate in SET STRIKE after the final Saturday night show and will not be released by the directors of the show until we have collectively completed all assigned tasks. Everyone is required to be a part of Strike. I will not ask to be dismissed early or excused. I understand my parent may be asked to help with Strike. We will conclude Strike together as a cast and crew.
16. I agree to work hard and to guard my health. Sometimes it is good to do without certain activities during a production: a night out, a late evening of watching TV, or a weekend trip. I will use such sacrificed time to catch up on sleep, homework, housework, and rehearsal. Nobody wants me to “give my life to the theatre.” I will keep my life; and give the theatre my very best.
17. I will silence my cell-phone and charge it on the charging shelf (so kindly provided by the generous Mrs. Marshall) or leave it closed in a school bag during rehearsals. If I expect audiences to refrain from using theirs during performances, I will do the same during rehearsals. If I am expecting an important text/call, I will let the S.M., A.D., or Director know before rehearsals begin. I will NOT have my phone backstage or on stage with me. THIS IS THE 1980’s, THERE WERE NO CELL PHONES during the 80’s and Mrs. Marshall LIVED through it. I am confidant that I will live through a rehearsal without my phone.
18. I will be kind, respectful, and helpful to EVERY member of this company. This includes all actors and technical crew. This will be a very fun show to be a part of and we want EVERYONE to have a wonderful experience and be a part of a welcoming and caring community. Please don’t actually kill anyone during this murder mystery or make anyone plot your murder.
IF I FAIL TO LIVE UP TO THE TENETS OF THIS CONTRACT, I AM AWARE THAT I WILL BE DISMISSED FROM THE COMPANY.
